New Euramax Solutions hire to tackle supply chain disruptions

While the industry continues to face supply chain disruptions, leading uPVC window and door manufacturer Euramax Solutions is taking on a unique approach to the issue by implementing a backflush system that sees the business converting as much of its own raw material as possible into finished goods, ensuring clever stock consumption.

The new system is being put into place by new Materials Manager Ivan Michaels, who joined the Barnsley-based company in May.

With a degree in logistics management and a decade of experience as a supply chain manager at a medical device manufacturer, Ivan played a big part in increasing his previous employer’s annual turnover by £5 million, and now has big growth plans for Euramax Solutions.

While supervising a team of warehouse operatives, Ivan manages supplier relationships and is also responsible for regular stock counts and inspections.

“The past 18 months have brought on several supply chain issues to contend with, which everyone in the industry is dealing with,” says Ivan.

“Since joining Euramax Solutions, I’ve been implementing a backflush system in order to reduce the amount of stockholding in terms of raw material that we’ve got in place and converting that into finished goods with the idea of selling these products on a daily basis rather than keeping our customers waiting.

“This involves working closely with our production team and fully understanding our capacity levels so that instead of issuing out stock manually, which is very time consuming, we’re able to automatically consume the raw material after every completed job, turning that into another finished product.

“At Euramax Solutions, we’re also focusing on clear communication in order to fully understand our customers’ expectations, while at the same time working very closely with our sales team to understand what is forecast ahead so that we can in turn work with our suppliers and give them as much notice as possible.”

Euramax Solutions Managing Director Nick Cowley comments: “As a new Materials Manager, Ivan has been a real asset to the company, and his plans for growth couldn’t have come at a better time.

At Euramax Solutions, we’ve not been immune to the challenges posed by the pandemic, but I have complete confidence in Ivan’s plans for coming back from these, and I very much look forward to what the next few months have in store for the business.”
