GGF partners with BSI to offer Members exclusive ‘digital fingerprint’ service

The GGF has partnered with the British Standards Institution (BSI) to bring Members a new and exclusive benefit, one that will allow them to ensure the traceability of their products in the supply chain.

BSI Identify is a unique, digital identification service that is designed to raise the bar in industry safety and compliance standards by delivering highly accurate and easily accessible product information to customers and end users.

After signing up to BSI Identify, GGF Members are able to create a persistent, public landing page for each of their products and issued with a BSI UPIN, which is a unique, traceable digital and physical link that can be applied to individual products at the manufacturing stage.

Supply chain operators can scan the UPIN, in the same way you would scan a QR code with a smart device or mobile phone. They are then directed to an online resource, that’s controlled by the manufacturer, which details accurate, up to date information on the product. The UPIN is designed to work within digital tools and models too, supporting the industry to deliver on efficiencies that such approaches can offer.

End users can also scan the UPIN, which acts as a smart link to a page where they can find a wealth of information on their windows and doors.

In addition to giving fabricators a simple and effective method to prove that their products are manufactured to relevant safety standards, BSI Identify can also help to demonstrate compliance to Building Regulations by providing access to relevant product information, a particularly important feature following recent updates to Part L for energy performance and Part F for ventilation.

GGF Members will benefit from an exclusive 25% discount when signing up to the scheme, with prices starting from just £375 for 12 months.

The GGF’s Group Chief Development Officer, Anda Gregory, commented: “BSI Identify is the latest in a series of exciting new initiatives that we have introduced for the benefit of our Members.

“The ability to equip individual products with a ‘digital fingerprint’ is an incredibly powerful tool for manufacturers, one that helps to solve the problem of traceability within the supply chain.

“For manufacturers who have invested huge amounts of time and money perfecting their product, it can be a challenge to ensure that people can access the correct information on that product once it has left the factory.

“By allowing users to quickly access accurate and most importantly, auditable data, businesses can present a single, definitive source of information on their products on a user friendly and open platform,” she continued.

“That’s important not only to maintain the highest levels of safety and compliance, but to help protect the reputation of the manufacturer.

“BSI Identify helps to greatly improve visibility across the supply chain, it mitigates the risk of product substitution, demonstrates a strong commitment to product quality and safety and enhances a company’s reputation as a responsible manufacturer,” concluded Anda.

“Ultimately, it offers peace of mind for manufacturers, reassurance to customers further down the supply chain and helps to raise standards across the industry.”
