GGF Concern Over Green Scheme Scam Reports

Following the Government’s announcement of the Green Homes Grant Scheme the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has received several reports of rogue companies trying to scam homeowners.

The reports include the following:

  • That scammers are contacting consumers by phone, email and door to door, claiming the Green Homes Grant Scheme is now operational and promising homeowners £5k off the price of their glazing.
  • Scammers using the name of the GGF to add credibility to their claims.

The GGF has asked its Members to report any scams of this kind to the police.

James Lee, Director of External Affairs commented, “We have received reports that these scams have occurred in Suffolk, Stoke on Trent and in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire. We urge anyone with any information regarding these scams to contact the police. Companies can report the scams via the Action Fraud website. This crime is particularly heartless given what homeowners have gone through and are still enduring with COVID-19. It also further damages consumer confidence in local businesses who are trying to recover from the double blow of a recent lengthy lockdown and the damage caused by the Government’s premature announcement of the Green Homes Grant Scheme.”
