FIRE SAFETY ADVOCATE CONFIRMED FOR GGF MEMBERS’ DAY

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) is delighted to confirm that Peter Capelhorn will be a keynote speaker for this year’s Members’ Day which will be held on 26th September in Kensington, London.

Capelhorn is the Chief Executive of the Construction Products Association (CPA) and has led the technical and safety work to ensure that the UK and EU policy and regulatory framework supports the UK construction products industry.

A Chartered Architect with more than 35 years of experience, Peter is particularly respected for his leadership across the wider construction industry in a number of key national roles including:

Chair of CB (the British Standards Institution’s Strategic Committee for Construction)

Chair of RIBA’s Regulations and Standards Group

Chair of the BIM (Building Information Modelling) Task Group’s BIM4Regs working group.

Until recently he was for nine years, deputy chair of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) and immediate past Chair of the CIC Health and Safety committee

Eight years as a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Council member

In 2015, Peter received an honorary membership from Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and in 2017, he was awarded honorary membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers.

He has given evidence at several All Party Parliamentary Inquiries regarding construction and has appeared on a number of television and radio interviews and live event programmes including Grand Designs Live. In addition, Peter has also authored publications such as  “Whole Life Costing: A New Approach” published in 2012 and has frequently published articles for the RIBA Journal, Building Design, Building Magazine and many others. His second book “Health and Safety and the Plan of Work” was published in 2016.

Most recently he has represented the CPA at the Industry Response Group initiated by Government to steer actions to make existing buildings safe in the wake of the Grenfell disaster. Additionally, he was asked by Dame Judith Hackitt to chair the Regulations Working Group for the Hackitt Review and sit on the “Products and the Golden Thread” working groups.
