The AECB, the sustainable building association, has called on the Government to stop wasting billions of consumers' and taxpayers' money on a 'green energy' strategy that it says delivers neither value for money nor energy security. Instea AECB says it should focus on the cheap and even free green alternatives that are being ignored or sidelined.

Following the recent announcement by the DECC that the Feed in Tariff (FiT) on Solar PV installations is to be reduced from 43.3p/kWh to 21p p/kWh, Gary Summers, Chief Executive Officer of the Alumet Group (incorporating EOS Energy) urged consumers not to panic. After the DECC announcement, Summers - well known for lifting awards in his trademark green jacket - announced that his company would guarantee that any orders placed by November 11th 2011 would be installed before the new cut-off date.

The ‘Cut Don’t Kill’ campaign, launched last month at Solar Power UK 2011, has warned that the proposed 52% cut to the UK feed-in tariff could “kill the UK solar industry stone dead” – jeopardising the future of 4,000 companies and 25,000 jobs. Synseal Profiles Ltd has announced the acquisition of the assets of Midland Glass Ltd, the Mansfield-based insulated glass unit manufacturer. Synseal has purchased the production machinery and associated handling equipment in a move that greatly extends Synseal’s support capabilities for its customers, in addition to offering excellent potential for future product development. Synseal will operate its glass division from the 43,000 feet2 premises formerly occupied by MGL.

Leading sealed unit supplier and glass processor, Padiham Glass, has opened its second trade centre in just two years, supplying VEKA products to the trade. This follows the success of its Burnley based operation and demand for windows and doors from their existing glass customers. The new trade centre is the third site for the successful Lancashire company.

Industry-leading VEKA plc has signed up to a new government initiative to help generate more apprenticeship programmes in the North West.
